Eyes become swollen and puffy when the eye tissue retains fluid. Puffiness around the eyes can also be caused by allergies, stress, exhaustion, and crying. It can also be caused by drinking alcohol, dehydration or too much salt.
Since the fluid buildup increases as you sleep, puffy eyes are more noticeable in the morning.

Refresh your eyes by rinsing your face with several splashes of ice-cold water.
Steep two tea bags (black, green or chamomile) in hot water for five minutes; wring them out, let them cool down in the freezer for ten minutes. Place the tea bags over your eyelids for fifteen minutes once or twice daily. (Do not use chamomile if you are allergic to plants in the daisy family).
