Baby allergies can be triggered by many different elements, including plants, animals, foods, food additives, scents etc..
What is an allergy?
An allergy is an over reaction by the immune system to a food, an airborne substance or a chemical.
Believe it or not, virtually any substance can provoke a reaction in some individuals.
Chemical allergens
Some of the most common causes of these chemical allergies are found around the house - chlorine; insecticides disinfectants; paint; household cleaning products; bedding; perfumes; skin and hair care products; food additives and preservatives to list a few.
Chemical allergies often manifest themselves as skin reactions showing up as an itchy red skin rash, diaper rash or hives.
Hives are a rash that usually appears quite suddenly - tiny patches of goose bump like spots, red itchy welts covering various areas of the body.
A short list of other symptoms include itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, stuffy nose, dark circles under the eyes; fatigue and eczema.
Reactions vary
Some people may have a reaction immediately whereas others may not develop a rash until twenty four hours after contact with the irritant.
Baby allergies can occur from products being used on or around baby, directly or indirectly. These allergies are often caused from skin care and laundry products.
Many parents have had the unfortunate experience of seeing their baby covered in a rash from head to those tiny little toes. This is a very common reaction to a laundry detergent.
Switching to a pure and natural laundry soap to avoid any discomfort would be beneficial, or at the very least adding an extra rinse cycle.
Finding relief
For quick effective relief from itching and inflammation, soak a clean cloth in cool water, wring it out and apply to the affected area for ten minutes. Repeat as necessary.
The thin delicate skin of a new baby is pure and unpolluted. The goal of many caregivers is to keep it that way for as long as possible.
How to avoid skin allergies
A sure way to avoid baby allergies associated with skin care is to use an all natural baby skin care product that contains absolutely no chemicals, preservatives or artificial fragrances. A natural soap and natural skin moisturizers would be a great place to start.
Keep in mind that products used on the skin are absorbed through the skin into the bloodstream.
It is never too late to protect yourself and your children!
